The UW EMS Consortium
The UW EMS Consortium, created in 2009, is a coalition of agencies that was created to promote the highest standards of clinical care and to ensure interoperability between jurisdictions.
To achieve this, all Consortium agencies have adopted common medical direction, patient care protocols, and quality metrics. There are multiple benefits to this unified approach:
- When one Consortium agency is requested to assist another Consortium agency (e.g., auto-ALS dispatch or mutual aid request), the EMS clinicians of both agencies can work seamlessly together.
- Consortium agencies are able to benchmark their performance on operational and quality metrics against other like agencies to promote improvement.
- EMS clinicians employed by one Consortium agency can seek secondary employment at another Consortium agency without needing to learn new protocols.
